Biking for Fitness

Biking for Fitness

This year, our Bailey’s PE team received two grants in order to teach our early elementary students how to ride a bike through the program, Biking at Bailey's.  All students at Bailey’s Primary Elementary School will go through a school-based bicycle skills, safety, and fitness program. Through PE class, students will learn how to ride a bike, stay safe while riding, and learn how to use bicycle riding as a means to stay fit and healthy for a lifetime.

Funds awarded by The Community Foundation Healthy Kids Grant were used to get the Biking at Bailey’s program started by purchasing one class set of: bicycles, helmets, pumps and starter supplies.

The Virginia Safe Routes to School grant funded: a second class set of helmets, additional supplies to ensure that bikes are kept in great condition for years to come, and more bikes to go toward a second class set! Having a second set of bikes will ensure that each student has their own to ride during PE.

Ms. Dincher and Mr. Peterson are excited to teach our students basic bike safety and how to ride a bike through this program.

Note to Parents/Guardians

Parents and Guardians: If your student has long hair, we ask that you style it in a way that a bike helmet can rest snugly on top. This will ensure that everyone is as safe as possible. Also, all students will wear a hairnet under their helmet in order to keep all helmets and students clean and safe.
